Nam Beng Dam site is about 15 km northeast of Pak Beng town in Oudom Xay Province, Northern Lao PDR - on the Nam Beng (river) beside National Road 2W.

The 34-megawatt Nam Beng dam project became operational in 2017.

The project provides electricity mostly for domestic consumption in Laos.

China National Electric Equipment Corp. has a 90% ownership interest and operates the project under a 27-year concession agreement. The Lao government under EDL GEN has a 10 percent ownership interest.

The Nam Beng (river) receives its water from the 1,908 square km Nam Beng watershed drainage basin with all flow merging into the Mekong River.
