Nam Chao Dam Hydropower by Hobo Maps- Go to Hydropower Projects Page - - Home

Nam Chao Hydropower project is located near near Nam Chaitai stream, Mok District, Xieng Khouang Province in northern Lao PDR at coordinates 19°09'30.6"N 103°55'33.7"E (19.158488, 103.926039) as seen in the images below.

Nam Chao Hydropower project seems to be developed by Phongsubthavy Group with intent to sell power output to Vietnam when the project is completed. Not sure of construction progress in year 2026.

Nam Chao Hydropower Co. Ltd. seems to be the official owner of the project.

A Power Purchase Agreement with EVN was signed on June 28, 2021 for sale and export of output from Nam Chao HPP to Vietnam.

We have no info regarding the amount of megawatts the project is designed for or any other details.

Nam Chao project may be able to export its output to Vietnam via the Nam Tai-Tuong Duong Vietnam 220 kV Transmission Line as seen below. The line will need to be synchronized with the Vietnamese grid.

The chart below shows about 100 km distance of transmission line from Nam Mo 2 station to Tuong Duong station.

Nam Chao 2 HPP

In 2024 we know that Phongsupthavy Group was constructing a hydropower plant called Nam Chao 2 in Mok District of Xieng Khouang Province and we wonder if that project is connected to the Nam Chao we have above on this web page. Various news reports in June 2021 reported that Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has exchanged power purchase contracts with Phongsupthavy Group for the Nam Yeuang hydropower plant cluster, the Nam Mo 2 project, Nam Tai, Nam Sak, Nam Sao and Nam Chao hydroelectric plants as seen in export map below.
