Nam Ngao Hydropower Project is located near Ban Namsen and Pak Ngao, Houay Xay District, Bokeo Province, Lao PDR about 15 km northwest of Houay Xay, the provincial capital.
The project is developed by Laos-based Heuangpaseuth Hydropower Co., Ltd..
Mr. Larkhamdee Heungpasert, the president and owner of the company reported in May 2026 that the project has been 61.53% completed with hope to begin the production of electricity in 2027.
The project has installed capacity of 15 megawatts (MW) with annual output potential of about 75 GWh.
Nam Ngao Dam estimated location is shown in map below at the blue star with approximate coordinates of 20°23'56.0"N 100°25'48.3"E (20.398889, 100.430083).

The dam structure is a steel-filled concrete type (CFRD) 43 meters high and 247.5 meters long.
Total construction cost is estimated at 32 million US dollars.
The project is a run-of-river hydropower type which includes fixed weir with head pond, sandtrap, intake structure, headrace canal, headrace tunnel, forebay, penstock, powerhouse and tailrace.
The reservoir covers an area of 1,428 square km.
The project hopes to sell the plant's output to an offtaker for about 0.066 US dollars per kilowatt hour.

The developers claim the project construction will not result in displacement of residents or inundation of houses.

The project is expected to contribute clean green energy to the Lao and Thai Power grids and to qualify as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project under the Kyoto Protocol and earn carbon-reduction credits. By displacing part of the power generated by polluting power plants, the project is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by an estimated 45,375 tons per year during the first crediting period.
