September 29, 2025 during typhoon Buoalai we have reports of a "Dam Failure" at Nam Ngiep 2B with comment of "big loss" but few details. See Facebook link 1 & Facebook link 2 . On one video we can see the dam structure with all 4 release gates closed and water rushing around one end of the structure which seems to be some sort of a washout. Apparently no injuries or casualties but some roads (Road 1D?) were closed temporarily.

Nam Ngiep 2B hydropower project is part of Nam Ngiep 2ABC Hydropower project (2A, 2B & 2C). Lao-based Nonghai Group Co. Ltd. is developing several hydropower sites in northern Lao PDR southeast of the Plain of Jars area and another in Kham District.
Nam Ngiep is pronounced like "Nam Nyiep".
The project is located in Khoun District of Xaysomboun Province, Lao PDR.

The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for Nam Ngiep 2B project was Chongqing Water Turbine Works Co., Ltd (CWTW) from China.
The project installed capacity is 18 MW from 3 horizontal axis Francis turbine-generator sets of 6 MW each with annual output potential of 76 GWh.
The project was finished and commissioned on 31 January 2018 and is currently in operation.
The dam structure is constructed of reinforced concrete with drainage gates.
The project water catchment area is 878 square kilometers. The reservoir capacity on the Nam Ngiep river above the dam is only 123,000 cubic meters.
Non-pressure tunnel of Nam Ngiep 2B HHP was constructed by Zheng Hong Company.
